Job Introduction
What you’ll do
We're looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead NHG's independent quantity surveying and cost assurance service within our Repairs team. The Senior Quantity Surveyor will provide commercial leadership and assurance across contractor pricing, variations, valuations and cost management, helping to ensure works deliver value for money and are supported by robust, evidence-based decision making.
A key purpose of this role is to bring specialist quantity surveying and Schedule of Rates expertise into NHG, strengthening our in-house capability and supporting consistent, transparent and defensible commercial decision-making across repairs programmes. You'll play a critical role in managing contractor costs, challenging pricing and ensuring robust financial assurance across works delivered by our contractor partners.
Working closely with operational, commercial and procurement colleagues, you'll lead a specialist team and help drive improvements in cost control, governance and value for money across the Repairs Service. Quantity surveying, commercial assurance, Schedule of Rates management, contractor cost challenge and responsive repairs are central to this role.
How you’ll do it
- Lead the delivery of independent cost assurance across Repairs, reviewing and challenging contractor pricing, variations and final accounts.
- Own, develop and maintain the Schedule of Rates (SOR), ensuring consistent, controlled and benchmarked pricing across programmes.
- Manage and develop a team of Commercial Officers, ensuring high-quality and consistent commercial assurance outputs.
- Provide robust challenge on contractor pricing, identifying discrepancies, inefficiencies and cost risks.
- Deliver independent cost insight and benchmarking to support value-for-money assessments and informed decision making.
- Work collaboratively with contractors, Repairs SMT, Procurement and other stakeholders while maintaining independence from budgets, contracts and payment decisions.

We're particularly interested in candidates with experience of working with Schedule of Rates frameworks within responsive repairs environments, either on the client side or contractor side.
You'll be comfortable using commercial insight to support effective decision making, financial control and value for money. You'll also have the leadership skills to manage and develop a high-performing team while building effective relationships with contractors and internal stakeholders.
Essential:
- Relevant qualification in quantity surveying, construction or commercial management, or an equivalent qualification aligned to degree level.
- Experience in quantity surveying, cost management or commercial roles within housing, construction, facilities management or a similar regulated environment.
- Experience working with Schedule of Rates (SOR) pricing frameworks and reviewing contractor pricing, variations and commercial submissions within a responsive repairs environment.
- Experience leading, managing and developing a team.

- Professional membership such as RICS or equivalent.
